I wouldn’t have thought that Genesis would have kicked off this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies. This salute by Phish was spot on, putting me in the rare position of agreeing with Jeff Miers of the News. Got to respect Phish for digging deep into the catalog that actually shows a band’s artistry. Other folks might have gone for one of the accessible, hook laden Phil hits.
Iggy Pop and Jimmy Cliff, with both their speeches and performances (especially Jimmy), stole the show. This was, however, a pretty damn cool way to start. Best part is all the legends in the audience slowly realizing what they are looking at and hearing for the first time in ages.
Peter should have been there. Rehearsals and scheduling conflicts my fanny. Must have been some “Misunderstanding.”
